Cut one video into numbered parts of the length you choose
This tool cuts one video into several numbered parts. You either type how long each part should be, in seconds, or ask for a number of equal parts. It runs in your browser, so the video is not uploaded anywhere: only the video engine (a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg) is downloaded, once. There is no account and no watermark. It is not made by, affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram, WhatsApp, LINE or any other platform, and it cannot promise that an app will accept the parts it makes.
How to split a video into parts
Choose a video, then choose how to split it: by the length of each part (type the seconds, or press a preset) or into a number of equal parts, from 2 to 100. A part length must be at least 1 second. Before you start, the page tells you how many parts you will get and, for a fixed length, how long the last one is (if it cannot read the video's length, the number of parts is worked out while splitting). Press Split video and the parts appear as a list, named after your file with a number (for example holiday_part01.mp4), each with its real length and size and its own Download button. Exact writes MP4 files; Fast keeps a WebM or MKV source in its own type and writes MP4 for anything else. Download all as a ZIP puts every part in one archive; the ZIP is built only when you press that button, and it is offered up to 512 MB in total, because the parts and the archive are both held in memory. A single run makes at most 100 parts.
Fast or Exact: what each cut method does
Fast copies the first video track and the first sound track without re-encoding them, so nothing is lost in quality and it is quick (other tracks, such as extra languages or subtitles, are not carried into the parts). The price is that a part can only start at a keyframe, one of the full pictures a video is built from. Parts therefore start at the first keyframe at or after each cut, their lengths vary, and some can be longer than the length you asked for; if a video has few keyframes, you can get fewer parts than planned. The page shows the real length of every part and says so when parts run over. Exact re-encodes the video as H.264 with AAC sound in an MP4 and forces a keyframe at every cut, so each part has the length you asked for, give or take a fraction of a second. It takes longer, the result is not the original quality bit for bit, the picture size is kept, and a side with an odd number of pixels is trimmed by one pixel to make it even. Exact also uses only the first video track and the first sound track. If a file cannot be copied into the output format, Fast falls back to Exact and tells you.
What the platforms' own pages say (read 15 October 2026)
The presets are shortcuts to figures that appear on platforms' help pages or in a report (explained below), plus two plain lengths (15 and 30 seconds) that are not platform figures. WhatsApp's Help Center page on sending media says Status videos can be up to 90 seconds. Instagram's help page on Stories says a video longer than 60 seconds can be edited with the trimmer (iOS) and does not state a maximum Story length, so the 60-second preset is a handy length, not an Instagram limit. For LINE, a Japanese tech site (April 2025) reports that chat videos longer than 300 seconds are cut; that is a secondary source and LINE's own help page was not checked, so check the current rule. Apps change these rules and also limit file size, format and shape, which this tool does not check.
What this tool does not do
It does not choose scenes, add titles or captions, change the picture shape or aim at a file size for the parts. To join parts again use Merge Videos, to cut one section use the Video Trimmer, to make a part fit a size limit use the WhatsApp Video Compressor or the Instagram Video Compressor, and to change the shape use Change Video Aspect Ratio. A file the browser or the engine cannot read will fail, and files over about 2 GB are most likely too large to read in a browser tab. The parts are held in memory while they are made, and if the file cannot be read in place it is copied into memory too, so very large videos can fail on a phone; a computer works better.
Sources and checks
- FFmpeg documentation: segment muxer: the muxer that writes the parts. It says every segment starts with a keyframe and that segment_times takes a list of split points, which is why Fast cuts only at keyframes.
- FFmpeg documentation: -force_key_frames: forces a keyframe at the first frame at or after each given time, which is how Exact makes every part start where the cut is.
- ffmpeg.wasm: the WebAssembly build of FFmpeg that does the work inside this page, so the video never leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I split a video into 30-second parts?
- Choose your video, leave Split by on Part length, type 30 or press the 30 s preset, and press Split video. The parts appear as a numbered list that you can download one by one or as a ZIP. The last part is whatever remains.
- How do I split a video into equal parts?
- Choose Number of equal parts, type how many parts you want (from 2 to 100) and press Split video. Each part is planned as the video's length divided by that number, as long as each part comes out at least 1 second long. With the Exact method that is the length you get, give or take a fraction of a second; with Fast the parts start at keyframes, so their lengths vary.
- What is the difference between Fast and Exact?
- Fast copies the video without re-encoding, so there is no quality loss, but parts can only start at a keyframe and their lengths vary. Exact re-encodes the video so each part has the length you asked for, give or take a fraction of a second. It takes longer.
- Why are some Fast parts longer than I asked for?
- Without re-encoding, a part can only begin at a keyframe, so each cut moves to the first keyframe at or after it. A video with a keyframe only every few seconds gives parts that run longer, and the page lists the real length of each. Use Exact if every part must stay within a length.
- Will WhatsApp, Instagram or LINE accept the parts?
- The tool cannot promise that. It only cuts the video at the lengths you set. WhatsApp's Help Center says Status videos can be up to 90 seconds, but apps also have rules about file size and format and they change, so check the app. This site is not affiliated with any platform.
- Is my video uploaded, and is it free?
- Your video is not uploaded. The splitting runs in your browser using a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg, and only the engine itself is downloaded the first time, about 31 MB. The tool is free, with no account and no watermark added to the parts.
- Can I download all the parts at once?
- Yes. Press Download all as a ZIP and the parts are packed into one archive on your device, with no password. It is offered when the parts add up to 512 MB or less; above that, download the parts one by one.
- How big a video can I split?
- The page warns you for files over 500 MB and expects files over about 2 GB to fail, because the job runs in your browser's memory. Exact is slower than Fast, so a long video takes a while. If a big file fails, cut a shorter piece first or try a computer instead of a phone.
