Free Developer Tools

Most developer chores are small and repetitive: a response body that arrives as one unreadable line, a token you want to look inside, a pattern that almost matches, a timestamp that could be seconds or milliseconds. These tools handle those jobs without an install, an account or a browser extension, and the text you paste is processed by your own browser rather than sent to a server.

The collection falls into a few groups: formatters and validators (JSON, XML, HTML, SQL), converters (JSON to CSV, YAML, TOML or TypeScript types, number bases, colour formats), encoders and hashes (Base64, URL, HTML entities, Unicode, SHA hashes, UUIDs, JWTs), time and scheduling (timestamps, time zones, cron), CSS generators, and quick-reference cheat sheets for regex, Git, SQL, Flexbox, Grid and more.

Which tool should I use?

  • A response or config file is one long line: JSON Formatter — formats, minifies and validates JSON in one place.
  • Deeply nested JSON is hard to read: JSON Tree Viewer — shows it as a collapsible tree with colour-coded types.
  • You need TypeScript types from a JSON sample: JSON to TypeScript Generator — builds interfaces for nested objects, arrays and union types.
  • A JSON array has to become a spreadsheet: JSON to CSV Converter — writes CSV with standard quoting you can download or copy.
  • A CSV export has to become JSON: CSV to JSON Converter — handles any delimiter and quoted fields.
  • Moving config between JSON, YAML and TOML: JSON ↔ YAML ↔ TOML Converter — converts in either direction with one swap button.
  • Looking inside a JWT: JWT Decoder — shows the header, payload and expiry.
  • Writing or debugging a regular expression: Regex Tester — highlights matches and capture groups as you type.
  • Understanding a cron schedule: Cron Expression Parser — turns an expression into plain English and the next run times.
  • Making a fingerprint of text: Hash Generator — produces SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512.
  • A timestamp that looks wrong: Timestamp Converter — reads seconds and milliseconds and converts both ways.
  • Comparing two versions of a text: Diff Checker — shows line by line what changed.
  • Testing an upload limit: Test File Generator — makes a valid PDF, image, CSV, JSON or ZIP of an exact size.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to paste production data, tokens or code into these tools?
The text is processed by JavaScript in your own browser tab and is not sent to Stax, so nothing leaves your device through the tool. You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and use a tool, and you will see no request that carries your input. As a general habit, avoid pasting live secrets into any web page. For a JWT, decoding shows what the token claims but proves nothing about whether it is genuine.
What is the difference between formatting, validating and minifying?
Formatting (or beautifying) adds indentation and line breaks so a person can read the data. Minifying removes unnecessary whitespace so it is as small as possible. Validating checks that the text follows the language's rules. The JSON, XML, HTML and SQL tools format and minify, and the JSON and XML tools also validate.
Which tool is for encoding and which is for hashing?
Encoding such as Base64, URL encoding or HTML entities only changes how data is written so that it can travel safely. It is not encryption and anyone can reverse it. A hash such as SHA-256 turns data into a fixed-length fingerprint that cannot be reversed, which is what you use to compare files or check a download. The hash generator produces SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512.
Why does my Unix timestamp show the wrong year?
A timestamp in seconds has about ten digits and one in milliseconds has about thirteen. Reading a millisecond value as seconds puts the date thousands of years in the future. The timestamp converter supports both units, so paste the number as it is and check which unit the result assumed.
Do the tools cope with very large inputs?
They run on your device, so the limit is your browser's memory, not a server cap. Inputs of several megabytes are normally fine. If a page slows down or a tab stops responding on a very large file, split the data or use a command-line tool for that one job.
