Different sizes, frame rates and sound

Clips that do not match are made to match. Each is fitted inside the same frame, with black bars rather than stretching, so a vertical clip and a widescreen clip can sit in one video. The frame rate is set to the one you choose, and a clip with no sound is given silence of its own length so the sound of the others stays in step with the picture. The frame can be the first clip's size, or 1080p or 720p.

Time and file size

Joining re-encodes every clip so they match, which takes longer than a simple cut, and longer videos take longer. A smaller picture size is faster to make and gives a smaller file. For a long result, choose 720p. If the finished file is bigger than you need, shrink it with the video compressor.

Get the clips ready first

Trim the unwanted start and end of each clip with the video trimmer before you join them, because every second you keep counts towards the total. Turn a sideways clip upright with rotate video, and add music to the finished video with add audio to video.
