The standard format is https://wa.me/[phone]?text=[message]. The phone number must include the country code without any + sign, spaces, or dashes. For an Indian number +91 98765 43210, the correct format is https://wa.me/919876543210. The message parameter must be URL-encoded — spaces become %20, and special characters like & must be encoded. This tool handles encoding automatically.
WhatsApp Business accounts can use the same wa.me links. If your number is registered as a WhatsApp Business account, the link opens the business chat with your business profile visible. For WhatsApp Business API (used for bulk messaging and chatbots), the click-to-chat link still works for initiating conversations but automated replies require a separate Business API setup.
