GST calculator for India
Whether you're preparing an invoice, checking a receipt, or working out the pre-tax price of a purchase, this GST calculator handles all three scenarios: adding tax, removing tax from an inclusive price, and computing just the tax amount.
CGST + SGST breakdown
For intra-state supplies, GST is collected as equal CGST and SGST. Toggle the breakdown table to see these components individually — useful for filing GSTR returns or preparing tax invoices.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I add GST to a price?
- Select 'Add tax to price', enter the base amount and GST rate (e.g., 18%), and the calculator shows the tax amount and the final inclusive price.
- How do I remove GST from an inclusive price?
- Select 'Extract tax from inclusive price'. Enter the tax-inclusive total and the GST rate. The tool reverse-calculates the original pre-tax price using: Base = Total ÷ (1 + rate/100).
- What are the GST rates in India?
- India has four main GST slabs: 5% (essential goods), 12% (processed foods, medicines), 18% (services, electronics), and 28% (luxury items, tobacco). Some items like fresh food are exempt (0%).
- What is CGST and SGST?
- For intra-state transactions, GST is split equally between Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST). For example, 18% GST = 9% CGST + 9% SGST. For inter-state transactions, the full rate is charged as IGST.
- Can I enter a custom tax rate?
- Yes. Type any rate (e.g., 12.5%) in the tax rate field. The quick-select buttons for 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% are shortcuts for the most common GST slabs.
